Porfilio leads Martlets to fourth-place finish at cross-country meet in London

LONDON, Ont. -- Freshman Jessica Porfilio of Longueuil, Que., placed fifth overalll to lead the McGill Martlets to finish fourth of 17 teams at the 37th annual Western International Cross-country Invitational meet at the Thames Valley golf course, Saturday.
Tamara Jewett of the Toronto Varsity Blues captured the women's individual title, completing the five-kilometre course in 17 minutes, 35 seconds. Porfilio was clocked in 18:16.
On the men's side, McGill came in 13th overall with 345 points, led by Ian Forbes, who place 47th, completing the 10k race in 34:56.
Guelph captured the women's division with 42 points, just two ahead of McMaster. Rounding out the top five was Western (95). McGill (99) and Dalhousie (149).
In the men's race, Matt Walters of the Windsor Lancers won the individual title, completing the course in 32:03, leading his troops to the team title as well, with 38 points. Guelph was second, only one point in arrears, followed by Western (77).
