MONTREAL - Aaron White of Trenton, Ont., and Christine Hartnoll from Unionville, Ont., are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending March 12, 2006.
White, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound sprinter, anchored McGill's gold-medal winning 4x400 relay team at the CIS track and field championships in Saskatoon over the weekend.
The 19-year-old physical education sophomore helped McGill complete the race in a photo finish time of three minutes, 21.65 seconds, only 0.10 seconds ahead of rival Sherbrooke. White also placed sixth in the 300m as McGill ended up 10th of 17 teams overall.
Hartnoll, a 20-year-old kinesiology junior on the Martlets hockey team, scored in all three games and was named to the all-tournament team as McGill won bronze at the CIS national championships in Antigonish, N.S. The 5-foot-5 centre played a major role in the bronze medal game, a 3-2 overtime shootout win over hometown St. Francis Xavier.
With McGill trailing 2-1, she forced overtime after netting a power play with six minutes and 20 seconds remaining in the third period. Hartnoll also assisted on the winner and added an insurance marker in McGill's 2-0 opening win over Dalhousie on Friday and tallied the team's lone marker in a 4-1 loss to Laurier, Saturday.
